Flew up from Sydney. Stayed at Kingsford Smith Motel - excellent service, comfy beds, modern rooms + free shuttle the new Brisbane cruise port. Highly recommend the motel for pre cruise stay.
Luminosa - nicely decorated for Christmas. Had 2 x solo balcony cabins on Deck 7 AFT. Great location. Comfy beds, nice balconies - guest services gave room steward permission to open up door between our balconies. We also requested extra pillows from our room steward.
Loved the sunset bar (above the Serenity pool/deck). My favourite place on the ship. Spent too much on cocktails (approx 16.00 each) but hey you are on holidays and it was tropical weather. Serenity pool was small but nice to cool off in. Lots of loungers next to the pool.
Balcony cabin in AFT location on Deck 7 right next to lifts. Nice clean room. Comfy beds but needed extra pillows which we requested and received promptly. Decor in bathroom was old but bathroom was functional. Brought our own shampoo & conditioner. Nice to have a couch. Nice balcony had two chairs & side table. Balcony divider was opened after we spoke to guest services for permission.
Great location- straight up in lift for Serenity area & lido buffet. Straight down in lift for Main Dining Room. Would book this cabin again.
Hot day 35C. Walked from ship to the swimming lagoon. Flat walk of about 10mins. Wednesdays - lagoon closed for maintenance til midday. Walked the main Esplanade but not far as too hot. Had a delish early lunch at Bang & Grind Cafe. Then lagoon open for swimming. It was lovely. Free to use, Clean, different depths, plenty of room for everyone. Plenty of grass to relax on. Spent 2hrs here. Then back to ship.
3pm did the ship tour “Cairns in style” Stretch Hummer ride with an open bar of champagne, beer & soft drinks. Fun group of 12 on board. Driver had personality. First stop was Cascades for a refreshing dip. Second stop was Palm Cove for approx 30 mins. Really enjoyed this tour - lucky to have a fun group on the tour. Good choice for a hot day. Hummer nicely air conditioned.
Did the ship tour with Quicksilver out to outer reef for snorkeling. Very expensive but well run tour. Big group but didn’t feel like a big group due to lots of staff on boat and pontoon. All well organised pontoon activities. Blessed to have very calm seas for boat ride out and back to pontoon. Off Quicksilver boat and snorkeling within 15mins of arrival. Plenty of snorkeling gear & stinger suits. available for use. Plenty of room to snorkel. We spent 2hrs in water snorkeling. water clarity was amazing. So clear. Plenty of colourful fish but coral dull. Tasty lunch provided. We ate 10mins before lunch closed and still plenty of food. Did last submersible cruise. Worth doing. Note we are strong swimmers but there was still a noticeable strong current furthest out from the platform where we were permitted to snorkel. Noodles & life jackets available for use.
Cheese & crackers. tea & coffee, cordial & water provided on the trip back to Port Douglas wharf. Bar for purchases too.
Travelling companion loved this. I thought it was very well run but the lack of colour in the coral was a disappointment for me.
