After hearing how great Viking was from many, people, we found the whole experience to be quite disappointing when compared with Oceania and Tauck.
We booked business class air and a suite for the Danube at Christmas. They make you pay in full far in advance. Working with Viking is extremely difficult. The air department, which you pay extra to be able to call are constrained by rules and budgets that result in multi-airport, multi-carrier itineraries. On the outbound we had a 50 minute connection in Amsterdam. We ran and made it. Our luggage didn’t.
Our airport transfer was great. The accommodations for pre and post cruise extensions were outstanding. On arrival at the ship we were greeted by a surly receptionist, who remained surly throughout the entire trip. Often she was in conversation with other employees, conversations that were clearly more important than helping a guest. Our suite on the ship was nice, except there were only 2 drawers for clothes. Our housekeeper was outstanding.
Response from VikingS, Community Team
Great bathroom and shower, great balcony, great cabin service, many outlets, well stocked minibar, fantastic cabin steward, fresh fruit and water/ice always there. Comfortable bed. Uncomfortable sitting room furniture. Nice TV with little content. Internet was very slow. Inadequate storage for clothing. Wasted space with a desk. Could be converted to clothing storage. In contrast, friends in non suite cabins had 6 drawers for clothes vs. our 2, and tiny tiny showers/baths. The ship width is limited by the need to go through locks. They used every inch.
