The was my and my ladyfriend's first every cruise and it exceed all expectations. I took this August 84 American soccer players and their spouses to play in the O70/75 World Cup in Soccer in Denmark, and know how it is to heard 84 wild cats. So they way Viking did it was to perfection, like introducing the F group for our land excurcions and called in Fabolous - where you assembled the people slow at walking, instead of them slowing down the group A B C D etc.

The Food by your Austrian chef was marvelous and the selection great combined with an assortment of fine wines.

The tours were fun and informative with local guides, and the entertainment on the ship and Elizabeth's game nights were as the word implied entertaining.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Stateroom

Cabin was as advertised +- 150sqft and well-arranged and equipped and comfortable enough for us during our 8 days cruise. Maybe some laundry detergent could be provided so one could wash some underwear etc. But we knew we had picked an E cabin in the middle of the ship on the waterline, as my partner get seasick in a teacup, and she had no problems on the whole tour. Even on the bus rides during our excursions she was able to reserve/get the front seat to prevent her carsickness. So she was very happy. And during the winter months who need a balcony which take up space to sit on?

Port Reviews

Speyer

One of the better surprises on the cruise. Interesting town and not damaged by bombings during the 2nd WW, so old houses are intact and not rebuilt. There were very few straight streets in Speyer.

Basel

Basel is a great town to end your cruise. if stay 1 or 2 days in Basel in a local hotel - you will get a Basel Card for free which pays for your public transport and gives you 50% discount to the good museums in town and also the Basel Oper (Opera) which is the biggest operahouse in CH. We saw a delightful Maria Von Webern Opera Der Freischutz. We visited the interesting anti-art museum with Tinguely's fantastic contraptions, and the wonderful art museum Fondation Beyeler where all pictures and sculptures were worth the visit. The building in itself is a gem.
