We have just returned from a wonderful AmaWaterways cruise, departing from Budapest finishing in Nuremberg. This is the second Ama cruise we have been on and both were similar itineraries though in different seasons - our first was in 2018 in the Summer and finished in Vilshofen instead of Nuremberg which we did this time. Luckily, most of the Christmas markets were open too!
As most reviewers have shared previously, the ship, bedrooms and facilities are all excellent for this size of boat - there is a fitness room, small pool and spa facilities. Yes, they are small, but equipped with premium gear.
The food was excellent - in the evening it was a seven course meal at the one night we had reserved at the smaller Chef’s Table area and four courses in the normal dining room each night. The breakfast and lunch were equally excellent and were “plated” rather than buffet style, which we much prefer at premium venues. For every meal, there is a “Chef’s Recommendation” which showcased some regional delicacies, which I had most nights and which I couldn’t fault. We did travel with some friends, one of whom was vegetarian, and she did share that there were limited vegetarian options - but, I believe the Ama chefs would be willing to cook something special if the menu option wasn’t appropriate.

French balconies were lovely, but not sure we made the most of them as we were either in the public areas or out and about. I definitely think we made more of them on our Summer cruise.
I love Vienna. Though you need to get a shuttle bus into the centre from the port, it’s not that far. Great museums (Albertina), cafes and just a great “vibe”. The evening Concert was an optional tour, but was excellent. We didn’t visit Schonbrunn this time, but have seen it previously - simply stunning palace and gardens. Vienna is worth visiting any time of the year.
Bratislava is probably a place you wouldn’t normally visit, but like all the stops on the Danube is lovely. Port is at the heart of the old town too…
Another great city - great food, sites and shopping. This is the first time we had seen it during Winter and the christmas markets were lovely, especially the one at the St Stephen’s Basilica
Beautiful port and again one which wasn’t on our radar previously… The private Christmas market in Thurn is probably the most beautiful I’ve been to - all the tours provide entrance tickets to it.
