First, I would like to say this is our 4th cruise with Norwegian and third in the last three years. Our last 2 were on the Norwegian Gem. Our first was on the Majesty 22 years ago for our honeymoon to Bermuda. We figured it was time to go back to Bermuda and the Joy was the option that would line up with our available times off. Let me say that we were not impressed with Norwegian this time. The only reason I gave 2 stars was because we were able to get away and spend time with each other without kids. During the cruise I made a list of “dings” against Norwegian and the cruise experience.
The start of the cruise was as every other with check in and customs and proceed to the muster satiations. This all went pretty smooth.
We were able to upgrade our cabin to the club balcony. The first ding on the cruise before we even left port was that the extended balcony was below all the cabins with regular balconies. We were on deck 8. This allowed every cabin with regular balconies above us to look down at us. There was less privacy than a regular balcony. Therefore we spent very little time there. Other problems with the cabin were that the air conditioning would keep defaulting to mid range. We like it cool and it would not stay on the cool setting. There was also an issue with cigarette smoke smell coming in our room when the balcony door was open. We complained to guest services but they obviously can’t go around to everyone’s room. They did remind people on our floor and the floors above us. It’s angering when people feel the rules don’t apply to them.
