Having been on two previous cruises with NCL, which were lovely, we booked this cruise because of the ports which were shown on the itinerary. NCL left it very late, in fact too late to cancel without forfeiting 50% of our money, before telling us that there was a maintenance problem with the ship and that we had to travel at a slower speed. This resulted in the very two ports we wished to visit, namely Peurto Plata (Dom Rep) and Cozemel in Mexico, being removed from our itinerary, instead of six sea-days there were now eight sea-days out of 14 day cruise. I would never have booked a cruise with 8 out of 14 days at sea. All we got was a miserable $300 onboard spend, use it or lose it, so they still kept all the money. I firmly believe there was no maintemance issue the ship was using reduced power to save on fuel costs, and we paid the price for this.

Compared to our previous cruises with NCL the entertainment was very poor, they only had one really first class show in the theatre and it was very difficult to work out what was going on and where to find it. As ever the catering and bar staff were excellent, the food was good too. It just seemed that NCL were totally money orientated all the time, for all the money we had paid we couldn't have a speciality coffee with paying a ridiculous extra charge for it, we could have an alcoholic drink up to $15 but not a $5 cup of coffee?? I'm really sorry to be negative about NCL, especially aftet two excellent cruises on NCL Jewel. But this time we felt totally cheated and now feel we can no longer trust NCL to deliver what is promised in their cruise itineraries, there needs to be some major changes in what cruise lines are allowed to get away with. Sorry NCL but not only have you lost a customer who loved NCL we also can no longer recommend your cruise line as we have in the past.

Port Reviews

Colon (Cristobal)

This port really was the pits, dirty, very run down, after an expensive taxi ride we gave up and asked to return to the ship. Probably the worst port we have visited on several cruises. I guess if you wished to go on a trip to the locks on the Panama Canal then this may have been interesting, have done a full transit of the canal previously we had no need to do this.
