I was a solo traveler on the American Symphony on the Lower Mississippi. I was expecting some challenges due to the historically low water levels, which is obviously beyond anyone’s control. Fortunately, the crew helped make the best of the unavoidable deviations with helpful attitudes and friendly faces. This went a long way towards making the trip a positive experience. The vessel is new and I experienced no issues with my well appointed cabin. Both the main dining room and the more informal Sky Lounge Cafe kept me well fed. The entertainment was varied and generally excellent, as were the shore excursions. The “local loops” provided by the buses were a welcome alternative to the structured excursions. In some instances, our distance to the ports was increased because of river conditions which meant for longer rides, but I can’t fault ACL for that. If you are interested in this history rich area of the country, I highly suggest seeing it from the river.
