Embarkation at Port Canaveral was done in under 45 mins start to finish, despite warnings of queues in previous weeks, although this sailing was half-full. Check-in staff were friendly and helpful, as were the crew on the ship who kept it spotless everywhere. (Disembarkation was equally easy, although not all our cases were present straightaway so we waited about 15 minutes.

The card activation machine said our card was already linked from when we checked in online, and the staff at guest relations helped us get our gold cards, matched with our Princess loyalty level (Gold level allows you one hour in the spa per cruise, which was a real treat for us as this is normally an expensive extra on other lines).

We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the MDR food, which was significantly better than the poor effort on a 2-day taster cruise on Virtuosa in April. Chandra and Ethell in Waves were very helpful and made our evenings. Thanks to them pointing it out, we used our Premium drinks package to live on champagne for most of the week.

Cabin Review

Cabin 11072 deluxe balcony was beautiful as expected but the wardrobe is ludicrously small with bad access to one half of the rail and real potential for trapped fingers if you open it the wrong way. On Princess you get 4 times as much hanging space and no door to get in the way.

There was just enough other storage space here and there, a comfortable sofa (bed) and a large double bed which was very firm but had very good quality linen. The balcony itself was very small, but similar to most large ships these days.

The TV was good quality but there were only a few live channels and all the 'on-demand' movies etc were $10, where other lines include these for free. A bit of a shame.

Port Reviews

Costa Maya

Just a 'resort port' with plenty of shops to browse for an hour.

Cozumel

Always plenty to do here if you want to get out and about.

We went snorkelling at Chankanaab beach, which was worthwhile, although the sea lion show is a bit disturbing these days. Animals shouldn't be performing for tourists these days.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve

Beautiful island, but because of a rearranged itinerary we only had about 6 hours here, so they didn't bring the buffet on shore. There was only 1 burger/hot dog van available, so a long wait.

We rented a paddleboard and did the jetskiing tour. Both great tours, good staff etc.

The beaches and water were idyllic.
