We picked Viking because we appreciated the adults-only, no-nonsense focus on the destinations. The small ship was comfortable and homey, and all food venues were excellent. Our pre-excursion to Capaddocia was a highlight of the trip, and we made friends who we stayed in touch with for the duration of the cruise and after. Cabins were top notch, well maintained and serviced. By pre-paying for Silver Spirits package, alcohol was never an issue, and it was nice to be able to bring a bottle of the local Turkish Raki on-board. There were no hassles, pressure, or negative attitudes. Every member of the crew was exceptional. We had done previously one other cruise on a very large line, and the difference was night and day. We would not travel on another ocean line after sailing with Viking.

The down-side....you get what you pay for. It was expensive. For planning purposes, with Viking Air, a premium economy leg-room upgrade, Silver Spirits alcohol package, upgraded excursions, and travel insurance, we spent right around double the initial cost of the DV2 cabin. On the plus side, the ship cost and air were paid early, then later on the travel insurance, then a few months before sailing, the excursions. By the time we sailed, everything was paid for except the crew gratuity which was charged to my credit card at the end. As far as the destinations, we were extremely impressed with Turkey, and the ancient sites were incredible. They did a great job coordinating between hotels, in-country air travel, and local tour companies they had contracted for our excursions. For those with some mobility issues, recommend being able to do lots of stairs, and we wished we would have brought our trekking poles for the uneven steps and lack of handrails. All in all, Viking has this market well in hand, and we highly recommend it. I just wish we could afford to do more trips with them more often!
