What an awesome way to spend our 30th wedding anniversary. Stayed in a Penthouse Jr Suite (room 8006). The room was spacious and luxurious. Our room attendant (April) was incredible. Everything was amazing: room, food, excursions, and especially the staff. We only went once to the following venues: afternoon tea in the Wintergarden, Mamsens, Port talk in the theater. The Wintergarden was loud for us and the theater was rather cold. We could watch the same recorded Port talk in my comfortable room on one of two huge TVs. So we didn’t attend any of the entertainment; not our thing anyways. I went to the Explorer’s Lounge every afternoon which was never crowded. My husband and I did have three spa appointments which in hindsight, was too much. One would have been sufficient; all therapists used the same techniques. Two visits to Manfredi’s was plenty and one at the Chef’s Table was sufficient. The menus offered at the Chef’s Table just wasn’t to our taste. The main Restaurant and World Cafe were both excellent. There were several tables of cruisers who were traveling as groups and were unfortunately very loud, making conversations for tables of two nearby difficult. Room service was a special treat on the two days we had early starts. Our Penthouse Jr Suite was great but room 8006 was not ideal as it was right below the bocce ball court above. Although deck 9 was supposed to be closed by around 6:00pm, there were cruisers up there at 9:00pm throwing that mini bowling ball. Next time, I’ll chose a room further down the hall. Please be aware that you will likely encounter coughing/sick people who won’t wear a mask. If you are in that situation, recommend you go spend some time in the sauna every night. I’ve read the high heat will help kill the virus. Viking is still the only cruise line for me. Any negatives you read here would only be compounded on a larger ship with more people … and kids!
