We chose this cruise for the itinerary, specifically our first port of call, Portoferraio, Elba. The ship docked at many smaller islands and the weather was perfect - warm and sunny each day. This was our first time on Azamara, having been on over 25 cruises over the years, mostly on Celebrity. We knew the ship was older and would not have the same amenities as newer and larger ships, and this was confirmed when we boarded.
Our veranda plus stateroom 6075 mid-ship was clean and comfortable, but the bathroom and shower were very small and the shower curtain was a bit shabby. Our soap was down to a sliver that fell on the floor and the steward returned it to the soap dish without replacing it. We had to ask for our toiletries and towels to be replaced on more than one occasion. We waited too long to book any specialty restaurants so always ate in the MDR. The service was quite good - the menu was a bit limited; we had veal several nights - no lobster except for a pasta dish that had tiny bits of it in a cream sauce. Never found prime rib or a great steak on the nightly choices, which was a bit of a disappointment.
We went to the dining room for breakfast once, and ate at the Patio grille area near the pool when we weren't ashore for lunch. The menu there included wings, egg rolls, chicken and salads in additional to the usual burgers and dogs. Drinks were good (we had premium package) and the bartenders were very responsive, though the martini glasses were the smallest I've ever seen!
Typical veranda stateroom - bed was very comfortable with luxury linens - bathroom was dreadfully small and the shower curtain was difficult to manage.
