In need of a break at short notice repeating an itinerary that we have travelled before. First time on Iona and unfortunately the last. Embarkation was good. Booked on a balcony guarantee basis and were given deck 8 promenade the downside being it has a permanent flow of walkers/joggers and some very nosey people who jump up to look into your cabin. Also a greater problem is the deck is full of sun beds and chairs are right up against your balcony. Cabins for 3 people are extremely tight you have to take turns to move around especially when trying to retrieve something from the wardrobe as doors are so close to the bed. There were many cabins with 3 guests so why only 2 chairs on balcony, we did ask for a third chair but were told too many other people were also asking, suffice to say the third chair did not appear to us or our neighbours on both sides. To access entertainment you had to have the my holiday app for many venues such as headliners theatre, 710 club, limelight etc but these were mostly booked solid throughout the cruise as people had booked before joining the ship even though they had no idea what the entertainment was going to be. Headliners theatre was the most unimpressive theatre with no atmosphere. The club house seemed to be the best to enjoy entertainment where you did not have to book, but often struggled to find a seat. So much was made of the skydome but the acoustics here were appalling and did not do justice to any performers, also the pool was sloshing about which was very noisy and was spilling over onto the floor which was constantly having to be mopped. Freedom dining was a joke you had to join a virtual queue for the main dining rooms where you could be 19 in the queue or 119 and had to have your phone to hand to be told your table was ready. Horizon buffet was terrible people were constantly asking for another slice of meat, 2 small slices appeared to be the maximum. Too much more to complain about but out of space. Second rate cruising.
