The Transpacific cruise had been on our bucket list for a while and we booked it in 2019, then Covid hit and we kept pushing it forward until Australia opened up their borders.
The Ovation of the Seas is a lovely ship and the largest we have ever been on. Overall the sailing was good, although having 12 sea days (only 5 ports of call with one stay over) is a bit tough. We love cruising, but will never book another cruise that is as long as this or one with so many sea days.
Embarkation in Honolulu was a breeze. We arrived at the port about 20 minutes prior to our scheduled time and dropped our bags and were on the ship in about 15 minutes. Disembarking in Sydney was a whole other matter. Not sure what the problem was, but we had a 9:15 time (the last time available) and did not get off the ship till close to 11:00 am, then stood in line at customs for another hour, then waited for a taxi for another 45 minutes…not impressed.
Did a snorkeling excursion which was ok, but the location of it was disappointing. Would have been nice to be in a smaller lagoon area, with no other boats around.
Did a tour thru Viator to 2 wineries, an ale house and the Art Deco area. Small group tour (8 people) with a really good guide.
Did a walk around as there were no excursions listed that looked interesting. Also a very cold, windy day. Went up the cable car and walked thru the Botanical Garden. Went to the Thistle pub (built in 1851) for a drink and snack…VERY expensive.
Took a bus tour of the MARLBOROUGH wine region thru RCI. A complete waste of time and money. The bus driver drove the bus and didn’t really give us any info at all.
