This was our second Viking Ocean cruise and we have done multiple Viking River cruises. Although our first Viking Ocean cruise a few years ago was disappointing, we wanted to give Viking another try. Unfortunately, our low expectations were met on this cruise too. This was the first Viking Ocean cruise for the others we were traveling with and they were similarly "underwhelmed."

The best part of the Viking Venus is the ship itself. It is gorgeous and is the most beautiful ship we've ever sailed on (we've sailed Windstar, Princess, Oceania, NCL, RCL, Azamara). Our Pentagon Veranda cabin was roomy and there was tons of storage space. The bathroom was a nice size and the shower was quite large by cruise ship standards. Common areas were beautiful and there were lots of nice sitting areas and places to get refreshments or drinks.

Otherwise, the food, entertainment, Cruise Director, and excursions were disappointing. Some meals were really good; others not so much. Service was spotty in the dining areas, and a few servers couldn't answer basic questions about the food offerings. One time, I had to send my entree back, and the server and his supervisor argued with me about why (it was the featured fish and it was awful).

Cabin Review

Penthouse Veranda Stateroom

We were in cabin 5084. It was a fantastic cabin; roomy and well appointed. There was tons of storage space, an ample closet and our cabin attendant even gave us extra hangers. There were drawers in the closet, and 2 other sets of drawers in the cabin! We couldn't even fill them all. There was a light in the cabin. There was a doorbell! The bathroom was equally nice and the shower roomy by cruise ship standards. The bathroom had a nightlight. The tv system had tv shows, movies, enrichment shows, and an opportunity to view and pay our bills directly. Our level of cabin included alcohol (and snacks) that were replenished daily.
