Nieuw Statendam is a fine ship. Her officers and crew are very good. The quality of dining is fantastic. But the pro's end there and the crew is the only reason I gave 3 stars. If you like Walmart, you will love the Nieuw Statendam in the Carribean. Way over crowded, no chance you get deck space, pool is almost unusable due to crowds. While the quality and taste of the food is great, there are too many guests and too few servers. Don't try breakfast, it will be an hour. I feel HAL management (Carnival) has changed strategy - they attracted a full ship for a great deal- but they left their understaffed crew to deal with the lack of supply, information and resources while they counted the dollars in the home office. Last, the private island stop while beautiful shines a spot light on HAL's disdain for their customers. I spent 3 hours in transit for their tender. 1.5 each way. I had an excursion lined up. No information was available. You just wait on lines. I owe a huge apology to the one man who was charged with directing 2600 passengers to where they needed to go. How can one person do that? HAL do better here! If the man is reading this it was 10/28 and I truly am sorry for my behavior. Not you fault. I'm done cruising for a while.
