We have about a dozen cruises under our belts split roughly evenly between Seabourn, Silversea and Crystal. Our last cruise was Quest in 2019. Obviously things have changed a bit in the past 3 years and to be clear do recognise that all hospitality venues have had serious challenges whether land or sea based. I did a live blog which can amplify issues so am trying here to take a step back. It is also perhaps no longer relevant to contrast with the past too much, also do I think what I experienced is solely confined to Seabourn - no , however am next on Silversea Dawn next year so will be able to compare.

Let us start : Much faffing to load verify and source app to get boarding barcode - no one looked at it on embarkation, in addition the source app had the WRONG terminal on it and no one contacted us - but we had 3 emails in week before changing our check in time ! Luckily we are resourceful and could see the boat and worked out where to go but for some this could have been stressful. This cruise was a 14 day greek/turkish one with ports everyday, the ship was not at all full 420 1 week and 360 the next. Weather for time of year was a little cool but sparkling and great for walking. I'd say perhaps too off-season with a lot of shops etc closed and beginning of Oct would have been better in hindsight. Overall I must stress that the cruise - to use a good English word - was "fine" - not awful but not wow, amazing either. If we hadn't cruised before with Seabourn maybe we'd have been more satisfied (in that you wouldn't know better) but we query the cost of this cruise for the value / service received.

Positives: Ship well maintained, Captain Bathgate and CD Ross visible and engaging, all the sea crew exuded competence and helped passengers eg tender operators etc, you felt in very good hands from a "ship" perspective which is important. The food quality was good/very good, there were many meals in all venues where you'd be happy to pay on land. The public spaces are very nice and aside the colonnade (more later) never seemed overly crowded. Service was friendly but there are definite shortages of the number of people and this was frustrating and for the first time I recall not once were we addressed by name except when they had order iPad with them. Included wine was also passable - true a couple of shockers but we always found something. Getting a top-up more of an issue though ! Seabourn square coffee area was excellent and we thought coffee bar had had an upgrade as there was a roasting machine and date when beans roasted visible (and fresh).
