We chose this cruise as it was our 25th anniversary and we wanted it to be very special. The ship is brand new and it was sparkling clean. The crew and staff on board were extremely nice, hard working, and very pleasant. The food on board was really good and plentiful. Unlike other cruise ships this is not a feeding frenzy, meals are served 3 times a day (which we really liked) but there is always an option to get snacks. The only thing we were disappointed with was the "Silver Spirits Package." We would not buy that again as it was not worth it for us, we don't drink that much. Also the staff did not seem to know how to provide us with the drinks that came with the package. The bartender was somewhat inexperienced and was not very helpful. But we attributed that to inexperience. The sites we visited were amazing, but Viking really should consider having the sites visited in the early morning. It was so hot at some of the sites, it was almost unbearable. The tour guides were amazing. The information and experience they added were worth the price of the ticket alone. We cannot express enough how wonderful they made the guided tour experience.
We added on the tour of Petra, the Dead Sea, and Jerash. This was nothing short of spectacular. The guide was fantastic and made each day a 5 star experience. Plus he let the group move the tours to early morning to avoid the blistering heat at the sites.
Overall our experience was great. We only downgraded slightly because of minor things. But mostly we were very annoyed that Viking made the staff harangue guests over filling out a paper survey. For the amount of money we paid for the trip, couldn't they spring for an online survey? Or better yet, let us, as customers inform them of any concerns we have or compliment the staff directly.
We booked a suite, which was very large and comfortable, with separate sleeping area and separate bathroom. Definitely worth the upgrade. We also had a balcony with a seating area. Very nice. The only thing that would have made it perfect would have been if they had informed us of the many amenities that come with the suite. We didn't even know there was a refrigerator in the room, stocked with goodies, until we were getting ready to leave the ship and were checking to make sure we had everything! Also laundry service came with the suite, again we were not informed of that little nugget of information.
