We chose this 17 day cruise because we wanted to go through the Panama Canal. We took a Holland America sponsored Zip Line tour in Costa Rica(41) of us. A torrential rain was predicted, but we were not made aware nor was the tour canceled.Dangerous rain including lightening dumped on us during the Zip Line. Of course, we were attached to metal lines with metal equipment. There was a flood of the entire venue with rushing water damaging the bridge and the bus could not pass. After an hour, all of us had to hike out 2 1/2 miles through raging water, fallen trees and through deep mud. Once out safely, we were told that the road back to the ship had 5 mud slides and we were not going to meet the ship. Bottom line, Holland America left all of us for 3 days!!!They put us up in two different hotels with only the wet muddy clothing on our backs. Most of us had no meds, credit cards, money etc with us. Worst part, after finally reaching Panama City 3 days later, we were told that we could not get on the ship and would join everyone that night after they went through the Canal. Holland America is only offering us a 50% credit on the base price and must be used within 2 years. This was a very expensive cruise and many people cannot spend an additional 50% in the near future. Other issues, which are minor in comparison, are poor service in the dining room, room cleaning only once a day(had to ask for extra towels almost every day), and the entertainment was not good. BB King show was outstanding as was the Billy Joel show. Our group of 12 are mostly late 60's early 70"s and very active. This is definitely a cruise for OLD people as there are no active things to do other than pickle ball. Mostly flower making, video painting, bingo, and trivia. I have probably cruised 20 times and have never encountered as many unfriendly and cranky passengers! Some were just rude! Bottom line is I will never cruise with Holland America again unless I am forced to use my 50% credit somewhere.
