Sail Date: Oct 2022

We have sailed over 300 days on Princess ships and chose to take this as the Royal Princess is a "Royal Class Princess ship" sailing out of San Francisco. No question it is a beautiful ship, spotlessly clean. We had had earlier experience in 2022 on Regal Princess in Europe and expected the same standard on the ROYAL Princess. To our complete and utter dismay we were in for a huge disappointment on the Royal Princess. This was so unfortunate. The food in ALL venues was not up to "Royal Class" standard. There was virtually no decent Indian or any excellent Asian food served in buffet and what was on offer was cooked with little to zero concept of spices. Tandoori chicken was dry and tough. Whether it was fish stew/Cioppino or fish curry, chicken dish or butter chicken it all tasted the same. Food in the Main Dining Room (MDR) was also not up to standard, example was served a lamb chop that was so tough that not even a serrated kitchen knife/steak would cut it. On speaking to Director of Restaurant Operations (Maître'd) he did apologize for this, however it was evident that the food quality .has really declined in the last 12 months. Fruit ran out, green tea ran out all by day 4 or 5 - really poor anticipation of guest needs as 93% of the guests on board were Asian, who prefer a variety of spicy foods and vegetarian offerings in addition to regular American faire. Many of the guests on board were first time cruisers and will be unaware of the difference and decline in quality. We spoke to Royal Princess FOOD and BEVERAGE MANAGER about this appalling and unacceptable oversight and educated him that any sailing from San Francisco will have mixed demographic on board and to cater to such with acceptable foods as was done on Regal Princess earlier this year. We know Princess can do it and do it well. Food and Beverage manager advised that Princess is standardizing their menus on all ships and therefore it appears lowering the Royal Class ships to that of their other class ships. We hope Royal Princess will improve its food on offer quickly to cater for the longer sailings to Mexico/Hawaii out of San Francisco.

Entertainment - we enjoyed Encore show. Formal night on this ship was lovely, many guests dancing and beautifully dressed up. Champagne waterfall is back.

TV in Cabin did not work properly for entire cruise - they need to fix satellite issue as it took 2.5 hrs just to complete muster drill which is mandatory. We had never encountered this problem before, guests services had to repeatedly reboot system - inconvenient for all concerned.
