Back in 2015, my wife and I took a 10 night repositioning cruise from New York to Ft. Lauderdale on REGAL PRINCESS. Despite the ship having a few quirks, we had an amazing time. Service, food and entertainment were pretty much top-notch. All of this made us really look forward to sailing on DISCOVERY PRINCESS.
First of all, like the REGAL, DISCOVERY is stunning. The ship is absolutely beautiful, with high-quality fittings and décor. Being practically brand new she shines inside and out. Everything is clean as a pin, and none of the wear and tear of years of service has yet to show up. Yes, she has the same annoying, quirky aspects that plague the REGAL (no wrap around promenade deck or a forward-facing view – unless you pay to go to The Sanctuary – and the central set of elevators are slower than frozen molasses), but, for the most part, she’s a very nice ship.
Our room, S216 on Sun Deck, was very comfortable. Due to the overhang from the deck above, our balcony was a little deeper than other standard balcony rooms on other decks. Bed linen was of a high quality, and the bed itself made for great sleeping. Just like the REGAL, the bathroom was super tiny, but functional. There was plenty of storage (we really like the huge, open closet) and the USB ports on the nightstand lamps were appreciated. One thing we really loved about our room was that the outside hallway faced the wall of windows that looks out onto The Retreat Pool. The Retreat Pool was the only pool on the ship we used. It was hardly ever crowded, and it took literally 30 seconds to get to it.
