We wanted to go on an upscale cruise so we wouldn't be "nickeled and dimed" with everything. Aside from being extremely expensive (with all the add-on's it wound up costing close to $8000 per person and it was definitely NOT worth the price.
Let me start at the beginning. We booked a10 day cruise to Turkey and the Greek Islands. Oceania claims that they have the best food of any cruise line. Obviously they have never been on a Viking Ocean Cruise, where the food is considerably better. Oceania might be using Jacques Pepin's' recipes, but Jacques would be embarrassed by the lack of quality of the food used. First night, we went to Jacques Restaurant. I ordered duck confit. It tasted like cat food and all but the first bite went back to the kitchen, uneaten. We never went back.
1) We purchased the drink package, which costs almost $400 for the 10 day cruise. All it gave you was beer and house wine but ONLY at meals. If you wanted better quality wine, or any drinks or spirits at any other time during the day, evening or night, you have to upgrade to a $600 drink plan. This was a total rip off.
