The cruise was called "A Taste Of The Continent". My husband and I have enjoyed another wonderful cruise on the Spirit Of Discovery. This was our 5th cruise on this lovely ship. I have not reviewed this ship before but the quality of this cruise necessitated that I review. We were collected from home by a chauffeur who looked like he had walked out of a Saville Row window, so incredibly smart. He offered us bottled water and sweets for the journey and when we had a stop at the services en route he kindly offered to buy us coffee, such a nice professional chap and a wonderful start to our cruise. We boarded without any fuss and in no time at all our luggage that had been collected at the port was sitting outside our cabin. We stayed in a deluxe cabin which was incredibly roomy, beautifully decorated and a massive amount of wardrobe and storage space. We enjoyed a lovely buffet lunch in The Grill restaurant. We had plenty of time to unpack before going into the lovely South Cape Bar for pre dinner cocktails. We had an absolutely amazing experience in one of the specialty restaurants called East To West. The food was fantastic and the service impeccable. The atmosphere and ambiance simply wonderful. On the formal evening in the Grand Dining Room, which is spectacular, the menu was incredible. We both enjoyed a scallop starter and a main of lobster tail and beef tenderloin which was cooked to perfection. The food throughout the cruise was so consistently good and excellent quality, always prepared meticulously. We loved the ice cream station available in the glorious Living Room along with specialty coffees and canapes. The Living Room is a wonderful place to relax and have coffees in the day and cocktails in the evening. The service onboard was excellent. You would not find a more attentive crew on the planet. Nothing is too much trouble. It really is service with a genuine smile. We both used the hydrotherapy pool every day with the powerful water jets giving an amazingly therapeutic and relaxing experience. In the spa I enjoyed a marvelous facial, full body hot stone massage and manicure and pedicure, all very professionally delivered. My husband had a full body massage and declared it to be one of the best he had ever had. We enjoyed a wonderful included excursion in Amsterdam where we delighted in a barge cruise of the canals. Extremely informative and pleasant. Following that a lovely tour of Amsterdam. On days at sea we enjoyed a magnificent Ukrainian classical piano quartet. There was a craft workshop making Christmas decorations and an outdoor Indian cooking demonstration/class, we really enjoyed the food afterwards, it was superb. There were many other options for activities throughout the day. The entertainment every evening was of high quality. What we really love about Saga is that everything is included - Return chauffeur service, gratuities, soft and alcoholic drinks, no supplements for the specialty restaurants, Wi-Fi, 24 hour room service, excursions on every cruise and every cabin has a balcony. We have cruised with most of the major cruise lines where these above elements are all chargeable. The fact that they are included in Saga's cruises make Saga such fantastic value for money. We cannot wait for our next Saga cruise.
