The cruise package was delightful! The cruise has a bit of a slow beginning as we were in the beginning port of Avignon for the first two nights. Excursions took us to the town of Arles and then we joined the ship that had sailed to a new port. We loved that we had a nice selection of tours and chose to take a Van Gogh painting class. As we sailed along the Rhône river, we began to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and fall colors. Optional tours took us into the countryside to visit the Chateauneuf-du-Pape Winery, an Olive farm owned by two sisters!, a Lavender Farm and Museum, and the “Grand Canyon of Europe”! The included tours covered mostly the local towns along the river but could be enjoyed in addition to the optional experiences. The highlight for us, was two days in Lyon to explore as we learned about its history , food and monuments.
We were on the 3rd deck in 313. The only disadvantage was that someone jogged in the morning and we could hear his feet pounding. It was about 7, which was time to get up, or during the day. Also, the ship was frequently next to another in port and often the starboard side was next to another ship so we couldn’t use the balcony. I recommend the port side if traveling from Avignon to Lyon. Bonjour!
