Took this cruise to enjoy the sights of Alaska and travel to Hawaii, and it started good and rapidly went downhill on the Norwegian Spirit. Ship is old and smaller than others, therefore lacking in good activities and eating establishments. We purchased the Thermal Spa Package only to find, due to the age of the ship, not all of the amenities are present on this ship. Of those available the thermal beds were not warm enough to offer much benefit, if any, and the only other amenities available were the sauna and steam room. Upselling at the spa is constant and the services ordered for hair color and medi-pedi substandard. Internet packages are wasted on slow outdated technology, as it only works if it is not raining, cloudy, or windy and appears to be at 56K baud, same as 1990 technology. After 10 days, food and the entertainment are becoming boring, and really not as listed. French fries is not a good substitute for hash browns or country potatoes. Discovered the Casino at Sea Program offers are awarded based on losses not play, and if you win, then offers for discounted and complementary cruises are rescinded, per the Casino Manager. The casino probably has less than 100 machines, and is very small. Most of the entertainment is age based and is mostly for folks over 75, which is also seems to be the average age of the folks on this cruise. October is not a good month for Alaska, which is why other cruise lines stop in September. Ketchikan is a small town where it rains constantly, Juneau is nicer, Skagway was skipped altogether due to a storm. Icy Strait Point was also raining and a very small town. Juneau had some decent shopping, though Ketchikan and Icy Strait Point were short of any decent shopping options. While Norwegian is a good cruise line the Alaska in October on the Spirit is not a cruise I would recommend or repeat. I would compliment our cabin steward for the excellent work. Did not get the feeling others in the Local, were as enthusiastic.
Not much of a glacier. Seems they are all gone with the exception of the one we say on this trip.
Cold and rainy. Shopping was minimal due to the lack of shops.
Cold and rainy. Limited shopping.
Cool, sunny and dry. Shopping options much better.
