We both had dads, uncles, and several relatives who served in WW II, some part of the D-day landing. Our primary purpose for choosing this Viking voyage was to see the beaches of Normandy, we weren't disappointed. Our tour took us to visit a very well presented museum depicting war memorabilia, historical events, and displays of items from that most important day in ours and European countries history. After visiting the museum our tour took us to the actual beach where so many brave solders lost their lives fighting for freedoms we and our European allies enjoy today. A visit to the American Cemetery where over 9,000 of those who fought and lost their lives are now buried brought tears to many who joined us on this trip, a truly heartwarming experience.

This was our second time sailing with Viking and it won't be our last, Viking does is right. Their river long-ship sailings bring together people who start out as strangers, but get to know one another over the course of just a few days, making long lasting friendships. There are no casinos, swimming pools, game rooms, etc., but with only a small number of passengers, no assigned seating in the dining room, and only passengers age 18 and older, you get to mingle and discover one another's backgrounds, making new acquaintances daily. The accommodations are very comfortable and the staff is some of the friendliest and most helpful of any cruise company we've ever sailed with, and we've sailed with several other companies. Viking puts together a well-planned journey with daily tours at each docking and offers optional tours most stops. Their guides are exceptionally well versed in their surroundings and the local guides Viking uses truly know their stuff. River cruising is relaxing, laid back, and really enjoyable and this cruise lived up to all those expectations. Seeing those beaches of Normandy and spending a delightful part in Paris made this voyage all worthwhile.

Cabin Review

French Balcony Stateroom

Our cabin was very clean and well kept. It was a bit smaller than some others available on the ship, but it was more than adequate for our needs with plenty of closet space, ample drawers for our clothes, a roomy bathroom, comfortable bed, good size TV, a safe for our valuables, and great housecleaning. Our cabin steward tidied our room each day while we were out.
