We have wanted to do a river cruise for a long time. Viking was always on the top of the list of recommendations among friends and acquaintances. We were scheduled two years ago, but Covid changed those plans twice. For this cruise in September we were concerned about air travel with the stories out there most of the summer. We were also concerned about river levels. I joined a Facebook group whose members told stories of travel delays, low rivers and having to switch boats or miss flights. We did not have any of these issues on our cruise. Our flights booked with Viking Air Plus went without a hitch. The rivers were cooperative and we were able to breeze through from Budapest to Amsterdam. Well from the guest perception anyway. I am sure that the crew made a number of changes to initial plans, but for the guest it was seamless. The service on the ship was totally amazing. Everyone of the crew members were friendly and helpful We largely did the offered tours, but did have a few optional tours. All of the tours were well managed and the local guides were very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about sharing their cities. The food was fabulous. I was a bit concerned about the amount of food, but the portions were reasonable and there was always the option to order more. The regional menus for lunch and dinner made every meal something different. We did not get the Silver drink package. The drink offerings for lunch and dinner were more than outstanding and for us it was plentiful and tasty. The coffee/tea bar was open 24/7 and provided a small selection of sweets that I have to confess we did indulge in. We met quite a number of interesting people as we dined and on the tours. When we first arrived the cabin seemed a bit small, but actually it was quite adequate. Having the heated floor in the bathroom was very nice. We did wash a few clothes and they dried easily in the warm bathroom. We also sent out some laundry, as we tried to pack lightly. The laundry was returned on hangers or wrapped up in tissue paper! First time I have had ironed pajamas!! Can't thing of anything I would change or recommend. I would recommend Viking to anyone I met.
