We got a deal on this cruise because they canceled their Tokyo/Vancouver cruise in 2020 because of Covid. The deal was a $750 credit for both of us plus beverage package. The cruise was actually 9/25 to 10/2/2022 round trip from Seattle. (The transpacific crossing in this review heading was actually the following week from 10/2 to?? but Cruise Critic was a bit off.) The $750 deal expired 12/31/22 so we decided on a quick, inexpensive Alaska cruise since we enjoyed a similar one on Regent several years ago. This was our 9th cruise but the first on Holland America. We were mostly disappointed on Holland America. Because of Covid protocol, we waited in line for at least 2 hours in a crowded parking lot and pavilion. We were lucky there was no Seattle rain. Our Veranda suite was much smaller than we were used to. The main dining room messed up our food orders many times. The Lido Buffet had much higher quality food without the wait and foul-ups. The Pinnacle Grill was nice, but the food proportions were large, wasteful, and not worth the up charge. The departure day was a mess, but not sure whose fault that was. The Port of Seattle offered free shuttle service to the airport along with baggage service from our room to our final destination, which is great if everything went as planned. We waited again in the parking lot at least one hour for a shuttle bus to show up. Note: We had already paid $29 each for a shuttle to the airport because no one had told us about the free service. And we were almost ready to catch a cab and pay another $50 to get to the airport. We did enjoy the entertainment, drink package, Happy Hours, and the staff in general. But we will not be looking to Holland America for any cruise in the future.
