Always a fan of HAL until now. In 25 plus cruise I don't think I ever send a meal back. Cold food in the buffet, sent back MD breakfast 2x, Pinnacle fish once. Buffet out of green tea. No pastries at breakfast unless you ask. No pen & notepaper in the room. No chocolates at night or towel animals except for Gala Night. Carving station on day 2 featured meatloaf (which was actually quite tasty) and peas & carrots. Not the type of food I cruise for. Mac & Cheese? Really? Room Steward knocking on our door at night to see what time we were going for dinner. Billboard, usually my favorite, not good. Lincoln Center Stage good, but looked like it was in a repurposed conference room. Limited choices at dinner, full page of extra charge dishes. Grilled steak & lamb sprinkled with too much salt. Overdone fish in the MD.

Crew as wonderful as ever, but not the same experience as on our other HAL cruises. We are cancelling our Caribbean cruise, probably going with Celebrity. Did we have a good time? Of course, but all the little things just added up.

Cabin Review

Superior Verandah Suite

Got an upgrade offer to a SS from a VE. It was nice to have the extra room. Cabin kept clean. Nice big TV, large bathroom, but if you don't use the jetted tub/shower, you're in a tiny cube with the dreaded shower curtain.

Port Reviews

Astoria, Oregon

Went to Lewis & Clark fort, very interesting. The guide was quite good.

Victoria

Took the HAL whale watch. Saw lots of whales, lots of really big sea lions. Nice to have 2 naturalists on board, one up top & one in the cabin. Well run.
