Chose this cruise for it’s round trip itinerary/ no air required as we live close to Vancouver BC. We were a group of 12 ranging in age 16-65+. We were well aware of the issues this ship had prior to the dry dock it was scheduled for after our cruise. This cruise included 2 medical evacuations, a flood that caused several cabins to relocate, elevators out of order, pools drained and out of commission, a fire in the kitchen, a fire in laundry and that’s just what we knew of.

The boarding process was great for 3 in our party that arrived at 10:30 (an hour before scheduled time) but a nightmare for us who arrived at 11am for our 11:30 check in. 2.5 hours or more of mixed messages from the staff we did see, crowds without masks crammed onto elevators with no options to use stairs. 3 rooms of line ups before security. 2 ships in but all of us in same lines until check in. It was the talk of the ship for days- delaying Sailaway for 45 min. Not once did they even check our arrival time. Had to show vaccine, Covid test and passport at 3 different spots. ( why fill out the app?) On board, our luggage beat us to the cabin. Muster drill was easy. Room steward opened our adjoining balconies. Long line ups first few days for dining. Many not sure how to reserve on app. Buffet was underwhelming for lunch and dinner. International Cafe, Salty Dog, Slice and coffee n cones were great. We ate in all 3 MDR with DaVinci our norm. Bottecelli was hot, smelled of diesel and very noisy. Michaelangelos was only available to us once and we’re charged for our wine even though we had the package. Able to correct via the crew chat on the app. The app had a few glitches early on but we soon figured it out. Some users needed assistance from crew. Ordering poolside had some issues if you were on deck 16-17. Had to inform bar that we were up there with no service. Food was good- some dishes better than others. Service slow even though we all chose fast pace service ( I don’t think they pay attention to preferences on the app) there were more than one occasion that the table settings were missing cutlery or water glasses. Crew seemed very overwhelmed at times. Room service was fast. Not always hot. Fruit plate for a fee didn’t look like the photos. Soup from Crown grill delivered warm- not hot.

Entertainment on board was good. Games were fun, music etc. cruise director was bubbly and funny as were other staff.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Typical cabin. On Caribe deck, loved the larger balcony. Location mid ship. AC was poor, ended up needing to open the balcony for cooler air during the night. Ok during daytime. Hopefully they upgrade lamps to have USB as plugs are very minimal

Port Reviews

Los Angeles

Port stay was from 8-5pm. Booked an excursion to Venice Beach, Canals and Santa Monica pier. (8:30-1:30) left at 9am arrived back at 1:05pm cutting an hour from our time in Santa Monica and Venice Beach. Tour guide was only chatting to front of bus. Answered questions but us in back not told what the question was. Constantly telling driver where to go or looking up things on his phone. Rude when asked why we were in such a hurry to return and not following the itinerary advertised. Would have been cheaper to DIY

San Diego

Great city. Went to Balboa park and Old Town as well took an Uber to Belmont park. The Hop on Hop off was not so great. Took an hour for the first trolley to arrive caught the trolley at 4;30 )last one at 5) which he waited till 5 to leave even though 2 other trolleys were there.

San Francisco

Lots to see but Hop on tour on Big Bus took most of our day. ( stated a round trip of 2 hours but was well over 3) Map not to scale- required use of an app but no wifi available.

Santa Barbara

Free shuttle was great- waited about 20 min. Went to courthouse where my selfie stick was confiscated/ would have been nice to have a list of prohibited items or a place for lockers. Guards were rushing us with little info. Views were worth it.
