This was our first river cruise (two single ladies) and we didn't know what to expect. The crew on the Modi were exceptional. The food was very good. Our only disappointment were the included excursions as they were all walking tours and took up a great deal of time especially when in the ports where we didn't have a great deal of time to spend. I would suggest they upgrade their included excursions so that they are all not so repetitive and boring at times. As well, walking tours are difficult for many people in the age group of taking river cruises.
My main area of complaint was going with Viking to include their extensions in Budapest and Amsterdam. For one shared room in Budapest for two nights we had to each pay $749 and in Amsterdam for two nights in a shared room we each paid $949. This did include all our transfers and breakfast (Budapest at the Hilton was very good but the breakfast in Amsterdam at the Okura was sub-standard as it was lukewarm). In both cases this was well over double of what the actual rooms rent out for even if you include transfers etc. I feel we were really ripped off and would advise future travelers to have their travel agents book accommodation for them or find their own. Although both hotels were very nice they do not rate the charge of $749 per night and $949 per night for a room requiring two beds.
I miss the wonderful crew already as they bent over backwards to make our trip a great experience.
The cabin was small but all cabins are and we managed just fine. They were extremely clean and maintained beautifully. No complaints.
