The Discovery Princess is a new ship. This newness coupled with the fact that Princess is owned by Carnival and is reputed to be a step up from Carnival had us excited to cruise again. My wife and I have been on 5 cruises now and until this Princess cruise to Alaska, this was the first time it wasnt a Carnival Cruise.
first the good. The ship is beautiful. always clean, all the right things on board. Most of the crew was very pleasant. and I will say the entertainment and presentations throughout the week were excellent. I loved the way they handled on and off the ship. So everything from those angles were great.
The average part of the trip was the excursions. all of the stops were ok, but not the first thing I talk about when telling folks about our vacation. I would think with so much beautiful territory Princess could have arranged better excursions than what we took. Maybe we just picked the wrong excursions all i know there was never a chance i wasnt going to make it back onboard in time because i was having too much fun.
cabin was very nice. i wasnt overwhelmed but it was always clean and tidy and gave us everything we needed.
we took the tram up th e mountain and then hiked the rest of the way to the top of the mountain and then saw one of the best views we have ever seen in our life. amazing. we then hiked back down to the bottom of the mountain. it was a chore and totally unexpected how taxing it was but it is the story of our vacation and in hindsight i am so glad we did this.
sitka is a waste of time. it is a shame skagway was not available and had to be switched to sitka.
lumberjack show was fun. walked along the creek by Dolly's and got to see the salmon trying to swim upstream. Ketchikan is fun. wish we would have been there longer.
