This was our sixth Celebrity cruise and the first time on Beyond. The ship is amazing. From the moment you get on you will be impressed by how big and beautiful it is. There are so many areas to get lost in and find a private space. The ship was spotless and the staff were very engaged and helpful. Being a newer ship cost per night was probably 10% higher than going on one of the older ships.

We had a magic carpet suite on deck eight and we really enjoyed where it was located and the layout of the room. It had a big balcony with room for two chairs and two loungers. Our only criticism of the room was the separate toilet seemed to smell at times and while we let the staff know no one came to check it while we were there. The other minor issue is that in this suite the shower is over a bath. We would prefer a walk-in shower as stepping in and out of the bath felt slightly dangerous and I would not like to be doing that if I was much older. It would be helpful if there was a choice of rooms with and without bath as we would definitely prefer without the bath.

We tried a variety of restaurants and enjoyed them in the following order: Eden, Le voyage, Luminae, Eden cafe (healthy salads for lunch), cafe Bacio, rooftop grill, raw on five, Fine cut, Blu and Tuscan. We were not overly impressed with Tuscan so we did not try the three other dining rooms as we were told menu is very similar between all four dining rooms apart from some specials dedicated to the style of the dining room. From what we heard from other guests Normandy might be the best one.

Port Reviews

Athens (Piraeus)

We did a shore excursion that took us into Athens in the afternoon. This turned out to be a good idea as the morning crowds had cleared. It was basically a drive-by of the highlights of Athens with some shopping time in Plaka. It suited us as we had been there before. Was a mild excursion with not too much walking.

Katakolon (Olympia)

We had been to old Olympia before so we decided to just hop off and walk around at the port. We then saw a bus for €10 that was going to Pyrgos. Can’t say it was that enjoyable and there wasnt a lot to see at Pyrgos. If you’ve never been you should take the trip to Olympia at least once otherwise just recommend walking around the port and checking out the local shops and restaurants.

Rhodes

The port is right beside the old city. We just hopped off the ship and went straight to the old town. It’s quite big and you could easily spend half a day or more wandering around. We really like Rhodes.

Mykonos

You tender in to Mykonos from the ship and the town is right there on the shore. We just chose to wander around on our own and had a pleasant morning shopping. We also stopped to have something to eat at a local restaurant which was nice. Definitely a town you can see on your own without the need for a shore excursion.

Santorini

We splurged on a private tour. This was quite good because we got to see a lot of the island without having to wait for people getting on and off buses. Our guide was young but informative. The only thing he didn’t factor in any time for lunch so when the tour finished after six hours we were quite hungry. However he did make sure that we saw all the sights. Would have liked more time just to wander at some of them. The cable car up to the top was very quick however the cable car to go back to the shore was a very long wait. Apparently this is normal so plan accordingly.

It was also an extremely hot day so we were quite exhausted at the end of it. However Santorini appeals and we would like to go back and stay for a few days in the future.

Malta (Valletta)

We chose a Malta city sights shore excursion for this stop. The guide spoke very well. We went to numerous sights. However the tour did not take us to Valleta which was disappointing. We heard from other guests that Valleta was amazing so we would suggest making sure you go on a trip where you get to spend time in Valletta. Malta is a lovely country by the looks of it and we would definitely like to spend more time there in the future.

Valleta is right near where the ship docks so you can do that on your own and not worry about a shore excursion.
