We returned to Alaska on Princess because our friends are frequent cruisers on Princess. Alaska is still a great place to cruise even though most of the ports have become McCommercialized with diamond stores and the like. The excursions are a great way to see the sights and we have no criticism there. The staff on the ship was usually top notch and jumping to provide quick and efficient service. The cabin was clean and comfortable although the cabin's deck showed the age of the boat with the entire bottom rail rusted out. Entertainment was professional but the material was old even though most customers were clearly 65+. Food was a big disappointment. The cafeteria on the Lido deck had plenty of variety but everything was so AVERAGE and bland. The dishes with an Indian or Philippines theme were better although, again the level of spice was always low. Mexican 'enchiladas' made with flour tortillas were laughable. Dining in the sit down restaurants was always better even though the chef often failed to deliver on what was communicated in the menu. See attached photographs of 'heirloom' tomatoes (actually grocery-store quality romas), a 'double cut' pork chop (neither thicker nor larger than a regular porkchop), and the 'luxardo cherry' which was described on the room service app for an Old Fashioned. The Prime Rib night featured something lower than a choice cut and was uniformly tough for the 6 people at our table who ordered it. We ordered rare, medium, and well done and none of us could tell the difference when served (they were all medium rare to medium). Embarkation is a giant act in frustration: the Medallion app requires uploading digital images of vax cards, passports, covid test results, etc. Princess doesn't rely on any of these: we had to show the vax card to get into the terminal and had to show physical vax cards, covid test results, and passports to be able to board the ship. And speaking of the Medallion app: be prepared to be frustrated. Some features only work on the PC version and the app frequently freezes. We tried using the app to find our friends on the ship and neither we nor the tech team onboard could make the work beyond our spouses.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Nicely appointed, always clean, satisfactory size for two large folks. Plenty of storage and closet space. And the TV worked swell even though the live TV feeds were limited to Faux News, PMSNBC, and BBC.

Port Reviews

Glacier Bay

Although rainy and cold what a stunning place to visit.
