This cruise was booked and paid for in 2018, then canceled and delayed due to Covid. Needless to say, we were thrilled to finally be experiencing this highly anticipated vacation. And Viking met or exceeded our expectations, mostly. The ship itself is stunning - tastefully decorated and beautifully laid out. There was absolutely no sign of any wear and tear, at least to us, as other reviewers pointed out. We hardly ever ran into any crowds in the restaurant, lounges, or theater except for one instance when we had reservations at Manfredi's for 8:30 and then had to wait over 1/2 hour to get seated. The port stops were varied and interesting, and in some cases breathtaking. Every single staff member we met in any capacity, whether serving us in the restaurant or lounge, taking care of the room, checking us in or out for excursions etc, was over the top friendly and accomodating the entire length of the cruise. We very much appreciated that all staff had masks on. We thought the food in the dining room was delicious, but the specialty restaurants were not much to our liking. It was somewhat disappointing that the World Cafe was still self-serve. Although there was the opportunity to wash your hands upon entering, unfortunately not everybody did, so we didn't eat there except for ice cream. Cafeterias and self-serve restaurants just aren't appealing to us, Covid or not. The afternoon tea was tasty and made especially enjoyable by our attentive server. Room service was always prompt, warm and well prepared. We used both pools and the spa several times - all pleasant and satisfying experiences. The talented singing group had only two shows, but we found them to be entertaining. We attended trivia and music games in the Explorer's Lounge, and spent a fun evening at Torshavn. Overall, it was a lovely week. Our biggest issue was with the change of port from Venice to Chioggia. Yes, I have repeatedly read about and basically comprehend port authority and harbor master decisions and the City of Venice restrictions. It doesn't change the fact that we didn't receive what we signed up and paid for 3 1/2 years ago. We would have greatly appreciated if Viking had at least provided transportation to and from Venice, either by boat or bus. Sadly this was only for Viking excursion participants. Would we cruise with Viking again - most likely yes because the good far outweighed the bad.

Cabin Review

Our cabin 5086 was spotlessly clean and well maintained by Komang and Sheb as far as linens and snacks and drinks. The beds were quite comfortable. The cabin was very spacious and had more than enough outlets for our devices. We enjoyed the plush robes and slippers, and the bathroom shampoo etc were a nice quality. There was more than enough storage. We had to rate this cabin 1 point less because the toilet did not flush on at least 3 different occasions that lasted several hours. This was incredibly inconvenient.
