We chose the cruise based on the itinerary entirely. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the Discovery Princess is a brand new ship, just launched this year. We really enjoyed the ship as an extra destination in addition to Alaska.

The spaces are thoughtfully designed. The decor is old world elegant (gold!) but with contemporary finishes. We particularly enjoyed the balcony stateroom. It was just the right size and provided an excellent venue for scenic cruising through fjords.

The food was roughly on par with HAL and much better than our experience on Royal. We enjoyed Gigi’s Pizzeria and the poolside ice cream bar (Swirl’s). The buffet was not our favorite but the main dining experience more than compensated for this. Read more
