Sail Date: Aug 2022

We have just returned from our first Saga cruise on the Spirit of Discovery – 14 days round trip from Dover, departing on 17th August 2022, calling at St Peter Port, La Rochelle, Bordeaux, La Coruna, Gijon, Santander and Brest.

Although this was our first cruise with Saga we consider ourselves seasoned cruisers with many trips over the last 18 years, including Celebrity, Princess, Azamara, Oceania and Viking Ocean.

First the journey. The included taxi transfer from home to the ship and back is excellent. Everything worked seamlessly and not having to brave airports was an absolute boon. We were very much looking forward to calling at St Malo but this was cancelled just before the departure date without any convincing explanation. The substitute port of Brest was very disappointing, nothing of interest to see and, being August and not a tourist destination, everything seemed to be closed.
