Wanted to experience a Viking river cruise. More than met our expectations. Merging a pre-cruise trip with a land-based segment worked well. Enjoyed the Oberammergau play although it was all in German and a bit hard to follow. The Bavarian alps were beautiful and the Viking coaches and drivers were excellent. Our guides along the way and during the day trips as part of the cruise were experienced and many had a great sense of humor. We had to contend with all the precautions required for the COVID epidemic. Although the issues with that virus were lessening, Viking still required a lot of testing. We felt we were a bit under a microscope at first with the threat of expulsion very real if we tested positive. Some guests were let off the ship after testing positive and we didn't want to be part of that. We heard about 37 guests on our ship had to leave the cruise. We closed out the trip with a self-run trip to Normandy and Paris although Viking still made out flight arrangements home for us. That was super helpful as we needed Viking help with some changes in our return itinerary. All together, the Viking experience was very good.
