We chose this cruise because of the great AMA Waterways reputation and the particular itinerary and dates as our group was attending the Belgian Grand Prix soon after this sailing completed.

Our sailing had to contend with very low water levels and there was a high risk we were going to be forced to change itinerary and ships, however it rained pretty heavily in Switzerland for several days ahead of the cruise and the Ama Lucia was able to sail all the way to Amsterdam. Absolutely great communications from our Cruise Manager Marcia -- she was brilliant!

What a wonderful experience. From the crew, to the staterooms, the food, the ports, the tours and guides -- end to end a great time. Excellent dining experience at the Chef's Table. Really great wines offered throughout. Everyone enjoyed the coffee machine in the lounge.

Outside Stateroom with French Balcony

Plenty of room, comfortable bed, plenty of room in the bathroom. Storage under bed and good closet space.

Port Reviews

Basel

We sailed from Basel. Nice clean Swiss city. Nice old city area with good restaurants. Can recommend a pre Cruise hotel to be Radisson Blu Basel if you choose your own hotel.

There are two great transportation museums nearby in Mulhouse, FR -- Cite du Train and Cite De l'Autobomile. both world class and worth a visit for car and train fans.

Cologne

Cologne Cathedral is just amazing -- it's immense and reputed to hold the remains of the 3 wise men who visited the child Jesus and bestowed gifts upon him. The downside was all the noisy construction adjacent to the cathedral right now.

The Kolsch Beer is fantastic and worth downing a few while you're visiting!!

Rudesheim

Loved Rudesheim and taking the gondola up the hill over the beautiful vineyards to see the Watch On The Rhine monument and the views over the village and river.

Some really nice wines and we enjoyed the tasting after the gondola ride.

Strasbourg

Just a beautiful old town area along the river. Very scenic wood framed buildings. The Notre Dam Cathedral there is really cool. Enjoy a crepe on the street and enjoy the day.

Amsterdam

We did the walking tour of the Jordaan neighborhood. Amsterdam has a lot of neat architecture and the canals are really cool lined with house boats, etc.

I will say they could invest a bit keep the city cleaner -- the amount of litter and cigarette butts were disappointing. The coffee bars arent just for coffee as you probably know...contact highs can be had just walking down the street 8>)
