We took the pre-trip to Como. IT was wonderful, great Tour Director Sam and wonderful tour guide. While there were some expected-unexpected situations, the tour director handled them efficiently and took care of the customers. Moreover, his narrative between Como and Basel was incredibly informative. Bravo Sam!

Once we reached the main part of our trip on the ship in Basel, we were informed there would be a ship swap. No big deal we thought, as we had done this four years ago on a Uniworld ship with a tour director who was fully prepared and even the swap was a good experience.

The Viking tour director didn't seem to have any information (bizarre in that the company has had several years to plan for this eventuality of low water), and he would not give us any information until the last minute when we were herded onto busses. We understand some bus time was necessary but for two days it seemed we were going back and forth, sometimes covering the same ground. A 6-and-a-half-hour bus ride on the autobahn is not a European tour.

Cabin Review

We had a stateroom with a full balcony. Terrible docking sites for the most part. We kept hearing that it was not Vikings' fault it was the low water. But it was clear that they were poorly prepared to deal with the situation that other cruise lines had successfully handled.
