Cabin: Mid-Ship Mini-Suite with Balcony

This was our 11th Cruise on NCL and second time on the Dawn. As always we had a great time. Every cruise is what you make of it. We chose this cruise because of the itinerary. St. Petersburg was originally on the schedule but was dropped for obvious reasons. It was replaced by an overnight in Helsinki and a stop in Visby good choices.

Embarkation went smooth we arrived a little earlier than our scheduled time and we were on board within minutes

We upgraded to a Club Balcony and enjoyed the extra room. Cabin itself is somewhat dated and could use some USB ports as well as more than two 110 volt outlets. No major complaints though. Our babin steward, Rom was the best.

Mid-Ship Mini-Suite with Balcony

See above, a bit dated but still fine. Needed more 110 volt outlets.

Port Reviews

Copenhagen

Copenhagen was our embarkation port and we arrived a few days later. Great city to walk around in. We visited Tivoli Gardens, Rosenborg Castle and just walked around. Great dinners at Host and at 1733.

Gdansk (Warsaw)

Group tour with TJ Travel. Small group of 13. TJ as always did a great job. Great directions on where to meet and the tour guide was very knowledgable. We visited the Soliditary Monument and Museum and had plenty of time to walk in the old town of Gdansk. beautiful city.

Helsinki

For the first day we used Tours by Locals and our tour guide, Timo was fantastic. The first part of the tour took us to Porvoo, a charming medieval city with lost of great shops. We were only supposed to spend an hour there but ended up being there for mor than two. We then returned to Helsinki to see the main sites including the churches. We also went to the library which is one of the most amazing libraries we have been too.

Day two we took an NCL excursion to Suomolinna Fortress, very intersting, great history.

Klaipeda

This tour included a trip to the Curonian Spit, Witches Hill and an amber museum. We also hiked up the dunes for beautiful views. Again this was through TJ Travel and our guide was great. Klaipeda itself is not much because of all the wars it has endured. The old town is not very large. Plan on taking a tour that takes you out of the city.

Riga

Again with TJ Travel and another great guide. This tour included a trip to Jurmala, a beach resort area. Old town Riga was beautiful a great walk through the old streets

Tallinn

One of our favorite cities. TJ Travel again with a private tour for 3 of us. Walked through the newer area before spending the rest of the time in the old city. Had a great lunch at Tule Estonia.

Visby

Visby was an add on because of SPB. We walked off the ship and wandered around the town on our own. It was a short walk from the port. Again another charming medieval city.

Rostock (Warnemunde)

We bussed down to Berlin and saw the major sites. Because of the travel time from Warnemunde, we tried to see as much as we could but simply not enough time. Saw the Berlin Wall, Checkpoint Charlie, The Monument to the Murdered Jews, Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag.

Stockholm

Our disembarkation port. We spent a few extra days here mainly to take in the Vasa. We also did a Ghost Tour which was great fun and walked around the old town, Gamla Stan.
