My family decided a cool weather getaway from the desert heat was a great idea. So, Alaska here we come on the Carnival Spirit. I must say I was quite disappointed with the ship. Ok, we last sailed on the Carnival Panorama, which is an amazing ship and I am not trying to compare the two. The Carnival Spirit has an inconsistent, indecisive décor. Art Deco meets Old Masters meets Greek Mythology with a little Jungle thrown in the mix. The eight story atrium just disturbs the Lido deck dining area. Indoor food stations were poorly laid out. Drink stations in the isle and condiment stations were hard to find. Fortunately, the ship was not even half full so the lines were not terrible. The food was nothing special. Though I had high hopes for Chopsticks. I was disappointed. The best thing was Guy's Burger Joint, The Taco bar and Swirls, the ice cream stations. The room was partially cleaned when we we allowed to enter. Bed linens stuffed into the closet, paper behind the trash can, broken and missing closet rail. We brought this to the attention of Customer Service and as least the bed linens were removed. The cabin Stewart did suggest that it was done by someone else. Interesting. We also asked if we could have a third chair for the balcony as we had three people in the room. The answer was an emphatic no. You're allowed two chairs only. Even though three would easily fit. The Sky Sports Bar never showed any sports. All screens were tuned to ESPN (the only channel they had according to the bartender) which only showed talk shows. Over 5 days there were rarely more than 5 or 6 people inside, even at night There was a piano bar and never once did anyone play the piano. My son did appreciate the solitude of the Jungle and the showroom performances were very nice. By biggest disappointment with the ship was the constant need to have your phone so you scan this QR Code or that QR code or open the Carnival HUB app. Want to know what's going on to plan your day, open the app. Want the menu in the main dining room, scan the QR code or open the App. On every other Carnival Cruise there is a sheet with the days activities listed right next to the towel animal. At worst, there was a channel where it scrolled on the in room TV. No more. On day four, I realized there was the sheet available at the Customer Service Desk. You also had to request an actual menu from the waiter. I understand that with Covid it is better to do these things. However. if you are going to go this route have more outlets in the rooms or thought-out he ship. Three people in one room needing to charge multiple devices and only one outlet. There isn't even a charging space in any of the public spaces. We brought an extension cord. The upside, with weather was very cool and rainy and lots of Whales. The glacier was also pretty cool. All in all, we'll avoid the Carnival Spirit.

Cabin 8171 is standard for Carnival with a nice balcony. We were only allowed two chairs for three people. There is maintenance needed in the closet. The interesting thing is this room is on floor below the Lido deck. It's convenient not needing to take the elevator to be outside quickly. The bad thing is it is just below the Lido deck and there was lot of chairs being dragged around the deck. It was quite noisy.
