We choose a cruise out of Charleston so we did not have to fly to get to the port. We had sailed on another Carnival ship out of Charleston prior to Covid. We knew this was not a newer ship, but it was convenient. We opted for the aft facing suite which we've not had before. Bad idea! There were two rooms, one of which was practically useless except for the desk. The balcony was smaller than the standard balcony cabin along side our suite. There was only one chair with a cushion that got soaked when it rained. Our floor supervisor Lal did arrange for another chair so we could both sit out at the same time. The phone in the suite did not have a working directory and there was no printed listing of extensions. A technician worked for over two hours but never got it working. A printed directory was promised but never delivered. Lal printed a list of four numbers for our use. One of our two thermostats malfunctioned, showing max heat but delivering max cold. The HVAC specialists was called twice to correct and the second time closed off the vent. The tub/shower draind so slowly that water was up to ankles before shower finished. Plumber plunged but no improvement for balance of cruise.
The food and entertainment on the sunshine was OK, but I commend the staff for their excellence. Food service personnel were always courteous and friendly and went the extra step to help every way they could. Mario, our stateroom attendant and Lal the floor supervisor took care of our needs with smiles and asked what else they could do every day.
Suite # 5340 to be avoided. One room had strange sectional couch that you could not sit on, but probably could stretch out and sleep on. See review above concerning phone, thermostat, shower drain, balcony furnishings.
