Wanted to do the Alaskan itinerary and chose Princess because they have such a huge stake in Alaska. This was also our 4th cruise with Princess and had a pretty good experience in the past. We stayed in 4 different properties over the 5 day land tour, which was a little tiring, but we knew that going into the trip. All of the coach drivers were amazing! The pre-arranged land excursions were good, but with moving almost every day, there was not a lot of time to see everything. The cruise part was a little disappointing, especially the food and overall service. Had dinner in the Crown Grill on the first night and neither the food or service was up to Princess standards. Had a bottle of white wine that came warm - was told it had just come in that day and was not chilled. The server put it in an ice bucket next to the table and we finally had him serve it as we had already eaten apps and wanted to enjoy with our meal. International Cafe was a huge disappointment! No varied daily selections and pastries were almost inedible. Great service from Ronnie & Filip in the Cafe and Vines Bar was the hi-light of our trip!! There were no tapas in the Vines Bar on this ship, which we have enjoyed on other Princess cruises. On the Princess Website, it specifically states that tapas are served on the Grand Princess. Only went to be buffet twice - both for breakfast. The was no omelet station and the food looked as if had been sitting for hours. Front desk customer service was very poor and gave inaccurate information. The medallion app was great for embarkation and debarkation, but not great during the cruise. Making dinner reservations with other guests on board was next to impossible. Tried to do so through the app but had to end up calling the reservation line, only to be told after over 30 minutes to just show up at the dining room. Skagway port was changed to Sitka due to a rockslide and our helicopter ride to land on a glacier in Juneau was cancelled due to weather (not great communication from Princess to let us know of the cancellation - message left on answering machine in room way after we had left the ship to meet the tour???) Due to this excursion cancellation, we were left with a shipboard credit that we were assured would be credited back to our credit card. It's 2 weeks later and no credit. Called Princess today only to have them say no credit was showing and they filled out a form for the credit to be sent via check in the next 4-6 weeks! Unacceptable! We have a 15 day re-positioning cruise for November and sure hope some of the kinks are worked out. Met awesome people during our vacation, and felt we were patient and understanding with new staffing, so overall still enjoyed the trip - we focused on the fact we were just happy to be cruising again after the COVID shut down. Princess definitely needs to step up their game if they want our continued business. (will step up to Platinum level after Nov 22 cruise)

Cabin Review

Oceanview

Cabins look a little tired and could use refreshing. Husband uses a C-Pap machiine and had to run an extension cord across the middle of the room due to lack of a plug near the bed. Found a moldy item in the refrigerator left from previous guests. The soap dispenser in the shower ran out mid-way and was never refilled. Returned to cabin one evening with a strange burning smell (possibly rubber?). Called maintenance and they checked the cabin, left, and never said what the problem was. We believe the AC unit was not functioning properly and had to be reset. Cabin steward never left little 'towel animals' and we feel she must have been very new to the job. I had a birthday celebration while on board that was definitely noted on my account and never received the 'Happy Birthday' paper/poster on the door.

Port Reviews

Glacier Bay

Excellent cruise day! Booked The Sanctuary on the ship to enjoy the scenery. They had ear muffs, blankets, etc to keep everyone warm. The blue glass in the front of the ship was not great for taking photos. We were supposed to receive a photo of ourselves with the glacier in the background, however, that did not happen. To make up for this, Princess offered the use of the Sanctuary for another day during our cruise. Alaska is not really a cruise to enjoy much time in The Sanctuary, so we did not take them up on their offer.
