We chose this cruise because the price was TERRIFIC and we wanted to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary. It was the first time that we decided to cruise with Viking, so we were anxious to see how Viking cruises compared with another river cruise company. Overall, they were comparable in every way, but Viking was more expensive. (except for THIS particular cruise)
We thought the included tours were good, but could have been better, especially since we hardly saw the Buda side except on a quick bus ride. The Viking tour audio system is , however OUTSTANDING.
We thought the food was very good, especially the soups. Portions were perfect. The Chateaubriand was outstanding.
Our cabin was small but very clean. The Var is an older ship, but it is "aging well". It was as advertised/shown. We especially liked our location, right in the middle of the ship. We were situated on the lowest cabin level, but we did not hear any engine noise. The soap, shampoo, conditioner and hand lotion were great and readily replenished. Fresh water was supplied daily . I was surprised to see a refrigerator, but we used it a few times.
