My wife and I finally got back to cruising in July and I thought I might give my impressions of Edge (our first time on an Edge class ship) and changes in cruising we noticed.
First Edge was a great ship and our infinity veranda was an excellent choice. The infinite veranda allows you to be on your veranda and still in your cabin at the same time. On this cruise the weather in Europe was hot, very hot. So it was nice to stay in our air conditioned cabin and still enjoy our veranda. I would think this would be a huge advantage where the weather was an issue on a cruise, either hot, rainy, cold, etc.
One thing we were struck with on this cruise was how empty the ship seemed. Our first day you could walk through the public areas and see hardly anyone. It did pick up on later days but never felt full or crowded. We were told by the crew the ship was about 50% full. A second item we noticed was a difference in the passengers. We have never seen so many younger people on a Celebrity cruise. I would guess the average age of the passengers was under 40 years old with many teenagers. Finally, the nationality of the passengers seemed very different with more Europeans and very few Americans or Asians on the ship. I know a lot of Americans were reluctant to cruise due to the testing requirements and it was apparent on this cruise.
We chose an infinite veranda on deck 6 and were very happy with the cabin. The bathroom arrangement was a vast improvement with a noticeably larger shower. The amount of storage space in the cabin seems to have declined. We miss the extra storage over the bed where we could store things we brought but seldom needed.
