Wife and I and several friends cruised on the Emerald Princess to Ireland, Scotland, and France in July 2022 from Southampton, England. We are all in our 60’s. It was our 30th cruise overall, 4th on Princess. We pick our cruises based on destinations and this one covered a lot of unique stops and areas we wanted to see. I highly recommend this cruise for the destinations and the ship is fine also. Specifics:
EMBARK – We rented a car at Heathrow to drive to several sites outside London, then stayed at the Hilton Doubletree in Southampton. Princess requires a Covid test which we did with an eMed self-test kit using my laptop to contact the test facilitator and get the formal negative report. We dropped the car (Enterprise) near the terminal and Ubered for checkin. We were unable to have our Medallion mailed to us beforehand so the first stop at checkin was to pick up our personal Medallions. These became our room key, charge card, locator beacon, etc for the cruise. We arrived at noon and were onboard within 20 minutes. Rooms were ready by 1pm. The lifeboat drill was watch a video in the cabin, then report to your lifeboat station anytime that afternoon. Masks were required inside the ship but only enforced at dining locations.
CABIN – We booked a minisuite and enjoyed the room. It had good size and plenty of storage. We particularly liked having two TVs in the room, both good size flat panels. The king bed was very comfortable. Bathroom had a full-size tub and plenty of counter space. The TV could be used to order anything including the free room service, also had a great selection of movies and TV shows to watch. Cabin steward was great, always available and efficient.
