We chose the Scarlet Lady out of sheer curiosity. We had heard so many conflicting reviews, we had to find out for ourselves. We are very glad we did - we’re hooked!
First, the staff offers a whole different level of customer service than any other ship we’ve been on (inc. Celebrity, Princess, NCL, RCL, Carnival, Viking, GCC, Oceania,) they are calmer, happier, not harried or stressed and as one told us ‘mainly due to not having to deal with children and keep them entertained and/or quiet.’ They also have shorter contracts, shorter work days and get to partake of pretty much everything the guests (Sailors) do. Restaurants, clubs etc. This really seems to set the tone for them going the extra mile. We spoke to one young lady from Brazil, Tai, and she showed up at our table with some (not requested) Brazilian cheese bread. What a lovely surprise. Our room stewardess, Faren, left a lovely note posted to our bathroom mirror before she signed off to end her current contract. Who does that? Thandi at Sailor Sevices, Tsholofelo (whose name means Hope and with that smile, she exudes it) and Graham the fabulous host in the casino, Suvat and Honey in Extra Virgin and Hermites in Razzle Dazzle, I made & Ryan in The Wake. We have pleasant stories about several on this voyage. It is just very different crew and in a positive happy way.
The sea terrace is great, we loved the hammock on the balcony and the fact the balconies are normal-sized unlike the newer mega ships. The beds can be made into a sofa for daytime use and the rooms are easily utilized to the fullest extent with a few swipes on your room’s ipad that controls everything from curtains, to lights, to TV, room service, etc. Upon arriving, I worried there wasn’t enough space to unpack everything but once I thought it out, everything had a place and neatly. It’s just a different configuration.
As listed above, the room is great and we loved the technology. The balcony is ample instead of cramped and the shower is a winner with plenty of space and excellent water pressure. However the one negative and it’s a huge one, is the size of the bathroom. Tiny is an understatement and it was seriously, the ONLY negative but a large one. Book the cabin XL which has a larger bathroom. We will never book a reg. sea terrace again due to this.
We hadn’t been to Bimini before but it was lovely. Plenty on offer free and otherwise. Food, drinks, cabanas, pools, ocean, umbrellas, like everything Virgin does, a very well done beach club.
