We selected this cruise because the Discovery is a new ship, and it visited Endicott Glacier which is a glacier we had never been to previously. We also liked the Skagway stop because this time we were finally going on the scenic railway ride to the Yukon. However, due to ice and fog, the glacier visit, and tour were cancelled. Skagway was also cancelled because of a rockslide in Skagway. Sitka was substituted for Skagway at the last minute. The cabin was absolutely beautiful and very comfortable and roomy.
The three biggest disappointments were the internet, the food in the buffet and dining rooms and specialty restaurants, and the premium drinks package. The eggs, bacon, main courses, etc., were served cold no matter the dining venue. And the absolute worst was the internet that did not work most of the time. If you need to work or have zoom meetings on this ship, forget about it. Book another line. The crew said it was because we were in Alaska and had location issues, but having been on 7 Alaskan cruises since 2010, I disagree. We always had great internet service on other cruise lines. And they charged us and everyone else $278.00 per cabin for internet that does not work. The week was very frustrating for those of us who needed to be online. The new Medallion app benefits the crew more than the passengers and is unavailable much of the time too. After signing up for the Premium package drinks, most bars said they did not have the premium liquor on hand. They then proceeded to offer the cheaper package liquor or wine or chose to fib - I ordered a Bombay Saphire gin martini and was served Gordon gin. The dining rooms had the premium wines on hand so no issues with the premium package there.
The cabin was very nice and luxurious. The bed and linens are devine.
Juneau was very crowded with multiple super ships docked. I think Juneau needs to update their facilities at the Mendenhall glacier and the tram to accommodate the increase in passengers
Ketchikan is always a fun port. The ship should have provided a shuttle to the Lumberjack show as the ship was docked at the last berth and furthest away from the show. It's a long walk for older people with sore knees and backs.
