Sail Date: Jul 2022
Cabin: Grand Suite

This was a substitute cruise for one originally booked w/Princess. We decided to go on another Alaska cruise for various reasons and settled on RCL for this one. This was the fourth cruise we had taken with them so we had certain standards that we expected. Unfortunately, we were disappointed on some of them. First and foremost was the food in the Windjammer buffet. Not only was the selection lacking but the hot food wasn't and the cold food was warm. I suffered gastrointestinal distress from the first day that I ate there that lasted for four days. I enjoy Indian food but having that on the line every day for lunch is incredibly excessive. The main dining room followed the typical pattern of classics and some other choices but those choices were not unusual or anything that wouldn't be available in any medium priced restaurant. In addition hot food arrived lukewarm at best. The only venues that were good were the specialty restaurants: Izumi, Chops Grille and Giovanni's Table. The selection was good as was the food. Since we were in a suite we were able to eat breakfast in Chops Grille every morning and the staff was outstanding (they were the only one's we left extra gratuity for). The rest of the staff were overall friendly and efficient except for our room steward - he was friendly enough but was not up to the same standards of any other steward we had by not doing the little things that other room stewards had done on our other 11 cruises.

Entertainment was not as elaborate as we had had on other RCL ships of the same size and the shows were at inconvenient times. The shows we did get to go to were enjoyable. One was called Piano Man - a song and dance revue and the other was an impressionist/comedian/singer who had been on national TV.

The room I will cover in more detail in that section.

Cabin Review

Grand Suite

We were in a Grand Suite which was very large, came with a whirlpool bath as well as a shower, a queen bed (not a king) and a drape that could screen off the bedroom from the living room and tv. Unfortunately, the whirlpool in the bath didn't work at all and the queen bed was shaped with a semi-circular base that made it very difficult for my 5'10" to stretch out completely.
