We took a cruise from Whittier, AK to Vancouver. Loved the scenery throughout the trip and being able to travel through Glacier Bay. Going to Glacier Bay and our scheduling window was the primary reason we chose the Grand Princess instead of a Royal Caribbean ship. The Grand Princess felt very old overall. They had "upgraded" our room to a rear balcony instead of the port side room we had booked beside the couple traveling with us. That was the first issue that was for some reason unresolvable after hours on the phone. The room they moved us to was noisy and vibrated due to the location, which must have been due to propellor or rudder movement. It was also in a hallway that smelled of mildew the entire trip. We did not complain about that because there was active work being done and fans running in the hallway the entire trip to dry it, which added to the noise. The TV was not level when they mounted it on the wall either. I did like the medallion they gave you to enter doorways and track you or your party in the ship. The problem with that is that the Medallion class app did not work, we gave up on the 2nd day. The internet was incredibly slow onboard as well.

We did have an excellent experience with the staff though. They were all incredibly hard workers and very friendly. Great to sit down and chat with, the bartenders especially.

The dining experience was below average compared to other trips we have been on. The food in the main dining buffet was almost always cold and the selection seemed limited. The main dining rooms was hit or miss but rarely came out hot. Service was fast but the food was sub par. We did have a specialty dining night, that was exceptional for service and food quality. We did have some food ordered to our room for breakfast one morning, it arrived 30 minutes early and we were woken up by the attendant. That was also cold by the time it arrived.

I would have preferred they left us in the room we had originally with the smaller balcony. Be aware there is a check box to check if you do not want to be upgraded (we had it checked before everything was rescheduled due to covid but it did not carry over)

Port Reviews

Glacier Bay

This was the highlight of the trip. Awesome views. The brought multiple park rangers onboard to talk about Glacier Bay, present info to us, be available to ask questions, and to broadcast noteworthy items over the ships intercom. Great to see the animals and glaciers.
